FROMFOLIO — Redesign

I redesigned Fromfolio's core user experience and contributed to their design system, creating a unified, mobile-optimized platform for automotive designers and employers. The work supported their successful $200K first funding round.

Challenge

A fragmented product going into a funding round

Fromfolio, a portfolio platform for automotive designers with ambitions to become a comprehensive hub for the entire design community, suffered from critical UX and design issues. The landing page failed to effectively showcase the platform's capabilities to both designers and employers. Inconsistent layouts, poor typography, and problematic mobile sizing created a fragmented user experience. The lack of a cohesive design system resulted in visual inconsistencies across the product, undermining credibility with both job-seeking designers and hiring companies. As Fromfolio prepared for their first funding round, they needed a professional, scalable design that could communicate their value proposition clearly.

The brief in one line — a portfolio platform built for car designers.

Action

Foundations first, then the pages that matter

As the solo product designer, I worked directly with developers and stakeholders from September 2022 to September 2023 to transform Fromfolio's user experience. I started by establishing design foundations—selecting a new typeface, creating a comprehensive component library including new cards, buttons, navigation elements, and optimized badges for small cards. This global component system unified design consistency across the entire product.

The landing page became my primary focus as the gateway experience for all users. I redesigned it to effectively showcase Fromfolio's capabilities, making it immediately clear what designers could accomplish on the platform. Since companies are equally important users, I created a dedicated Company Landing Page that explained partnership opportunities and what employers could expect from the platform.

I designed a News Page with a cleaner, more intuitive concept to replace the previously poor news experience, making it easier for the platform to share industry updates and company news. For monetization, I created a Benefits for Pro Users section that clearly communicated premium features: the ability to review portfolios (a paid feature) and receive a distinctive pro badge.

To improve the hiring experience, I designed the Applicants' Dashboard for employers to efficiently review candidate backgrounds and qualifications. I also redesigned the Applicant Profile Page—the main showcase for individual designers—to better highlight their projects, skills, and experience. These improvements gave designers better tools to present their work while helping employers make informed hiring decisions.

Result

A $200K first round

The redesigned experience directly contributed to Fromfolio securing $200,000 in their first funding round in July 2025. The improved user experience, professional design, and clear value proposition validated the platform's market position and growth potential to investors. Better engagement metrics demonstrated that the clearer navigation, mobile-optimized layouts, and cohesive design system successfully addressed the previous UX problems.

Mobile sizing was one of the original complaints — so it got designed, not adapted.

The design system I established created scalability for the team, enabling faster feature development with consistent quality. By solving both designer and employer needs—showcasing creative work while facilitating meaningful job matches—the redesign positioned Fromfolio to expand beyond automotive design toward becoming the comprehensive design community hub they envisioned.
